When Will We Meet Again ?
With the updates from Westminster and Scottish governments on 22nd and 23rd February, we are sure this little refrain will be running through all our heads again. For the moment, we are carefully considering the practical implications of all the guidelines and deciding what will be possible in the coming months. We will post another update when we have more news. In the meantime do join us for our weekly Living Better online activities (including coffee and chat blether sessions and our weekly T'ai Chi and Mindfulness meets which you can still join any time) and our new series of Fun Fridays activities which run through to April.

Lockdown January 2021
We realise that this return to full lockdown will provoke mixed feelings of disappointment, resignation and maybe even relief. It certainly seems a necessary step to avoid tumbling at the last hurdle. With roll out of the vaccination now under way, we can truly hope that the end is in sight and that sticking it out with the measures which have helped to keep us safe for the last 9 months for a few more weeks will see us through. LGOWIT will continue to hold our regular weekly online blether meet ups and online Living Better group meetings. We also have a 12 week block of T'ai Chi starting on Monday 11th at 2pm and Mindfulness on Thursday 14th at 7pm (email lgowitkirsteen@highlandtsi.org.uk) to sign up if you are already a LGOWIT member. If you are new to LGOWIT please find your local community networker here and get in touch with them for an introductory chat. LGOWIT members feeling the need for a one to one chat can contact any of our Community Networkers as some of our team are part-time.
And finally .... we are cooking up some additional one-off online activities - coming soon!

LGOWIT in Lockdown Update
Although we have missed meeting up with our groups and running courses, the LGOWIT team has been busy providing support for our members in a variety of ways as outlined below. Securing financial support from the Wellbeing Fund has helped enormously with making all this possible.
Although we have missed meeting up with our groups and running courses, the LGOWIT team has been busy providing support for our members in a variety of ways as outlined below. Securing financial support from the Wellbeing Fund has helped enormously with making all this possible.
- Keeping in weekly touch with our members by text, phone and email to provide as much help and support as we can during these difficult days.
- Through August we are organising online coffee meet ups for any and all members to join in a blether. Details are posted on social media. Email Kirsteen if you would like an invite for the next get together.
- A closed Facebook group (LGOWIT Living Better) with over 100 members which is a great platform for folks to keep in touch and access a wide range of support and fun activities. This group is open to all Living Better group members, our volunteers and anyone who has attended a self management course. Anyone who is new to LGOWIT and would like to join a group should contact their local Community Networker in the first instance.
- A Members Area which gives access to online classes, activities and advice, especially for those who don't use Facebook. Existing Living Better members have been sent an invite. Members can also now request to register. Email Mary if you are having any difficulty accessing the Members Area
- Interactive online classes led by local providers including T'ai Chi, Pilates, Mindfulness & Emotions, Sound Bath, Finding Inner Peace.
- Animations promoting self management messages, particularly around resilience and positive mental health. Our animations on Coping with Change and Homeworking during the Lockdown can be viewed on the Covid-19 page of our website.
- Self Management in Challenging Times Booklet. We have produced a full-colour 10 module short course booklet. All Living Better group members have received a copy by mail and copies have been supplied to local contacts and partners. Further requests for postal copies can be made by email to Mary. Individual modules are also available for download from within the online course (see below)
- A 10 Module Online Self Management in Challenging Times Course which complements and extends the course booklet is now available to anyone in Highland. Individual modules from the booklet can also be downloaded for offline use from the course home page.
- Bespoke Creative Kits in association with Creativity in Care posted out to members who are not able to access online activities
- Three editions of the Living Better in Lockdown Newsletter which has been very well received, particularly by those not able to access our extensive online support.
- First online meeting (with partners and other organisations) of the Highland Self Management Forum to share experiences and identify areas where we can work together to continue providing support to people living with a long term condition in the Highlands in the light of the changes the Covid-19 pandemic has brought to all our lives.
